A friend who lives in Bothell, Wash., pointed out his city's motto. Doesn't it sound a bit ominous?
Though most of you readers are familiar with Washington state, my readers in other parts of the country should know that Bothell is not pronounced "Boat-HELL" (as a beautiful visiting UW professor from England once pronounced it). It is instead, as my ex-boyfriend's father pronounced it, "brothel," except without the "r."
