Really quickly, this week, I'm going to give you your first line for this week's installment of rewrite theater. It comes from an answering machine outgoing message from someone I was interviewing. I don't think it's verbatim, but it is for real. Why do people do this?

SAM SPADE: When a man gets a message he's supposed to do something about it. It doesn't make any difference what you thought of it. It was your message and you're supposed to do something about it.
